Making a Large Room Feel Cozy
Do you have one room in your home that is just a little bit too big for the furniture you own? The room might feel cold and uninviting. You need to warm it up a bit and give it a cozier feel. Here are some simple steps you can take to warming up that large room:
• Arrange the furniture so that there is a focal point, like a fireplace or a window that has a nice view of the outdoors. Flank it with two chairs. Your eyes will focus more on the combination than the vastness of the room itself.
• Place a large, tall plant in one of the room’s corners.
• Use candles and softer lighting to set a mood. Installing a dimmer switch can help. Also, track lighting and low hanging chandeliers can lower a very tall ceiling.
• Paint the walls in a darker robust color. Use darker woods to accent the color.
• Bring in oversized furniture like an armoire or piano, but do not make it the focal point of the room. Place it off to the side.
• Add a large rug. Or if you can’t find one that you like, use four smaller rugs placed in a square pattern to give the illusion of one big rug.
• Toss pillows on every chair.
• Throw a comfortable blanket on the end of your couch to soften up the room
• Stack books wherever you can. They fill space, and are wonderful conversation starters.
Your large room doesn’t have to feel so large when you use these tips to warm it up a bit. You will feel nice and cozy in your newly redecorated room and everyone who comes to visit will feel the same way. Enjoy it with your family and friends.
