Having Enough Insurance Coverage for the Holidays
Can you believe the gift giving holidays are almost here? Thanksgiving is next week and then it’s only a stone’s throw on the calendar until Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and every other holiday celebrated at the end of the year. They seem to sneak up quicker and quicker every year, don’t they? Before you get in a shopping frenzy trying to find the perfect gifts for your loved ones, stop and take a minute to review your insurance coverages.
Your homeowners policy should cover you for all those holiday mishaps that could occur, but you will want to be sure the limits you have set on it are enough. Unfortunately, fires are a big problem around the house during the holidays. Under-watered Christmas trees mixed with dry, forced-air heat and overloaded twinkly lights in the outlets are a fire’s perfect combination. Make sure you have enough coverage to replace anything that could burn down- including all those gifts under the tree.
If you haven’t done it yet, now is the perfect time to take inventory of your household belongings. Let your insurance carrier know what you currently own so that if a claim situation arises, you won’t have any trouble proving that you do in fact own the items you are claiming. Don’t forget to include those items that you have purchased to give as gifts. You wouldn’t want to spend all that money on them to find out they can not be replaced if something goes wrong.
Talk with your insurance agent about your current policies and find out if you could benefit from increasing your coverage. You may find that what you currently have is enough. But it is best to have peace of mind while you are singing Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men… don’t you think?
