Pros and Cons of City vs. Suburbs

Category: Our Blog

While people who live in the city will argue that it is better than living in the suburbs and vice-versa, there are many benefits to living in the city and living in the suburbs. Here are the pros and cons of living in the city vs. living in the suburbs.

Pros of the City

The city is a busy place. If you work in the city, you can save a lot of commute time by living there and potentially save money by relying on public transportation. If you have a discerning taste in food, culture, and bars, the city has a plethora of options for you. Your home or apartment is more likely to be distinctive and unique.

Cons of the City

If you have a young family, your children will not have as much of a place to play outside your home unless there is a nearby public park. The city is loud, crowded, and oftentimes more dangerous than living in the suburbs.

Pros of the Suburbs

Your money usually gets you more in the suburbs than it does in the city. You will be able to have a larger house and enjoy more peace and quiet. You also have the potential to start a home business with the extra space in your home. The streets will probably be safer and easier to navigate, and your children will have more room to play in the yard by themselves.

Cons of the Suburbs

If you work in the city, your commute can be long, tiresome, and expensive. If you do not have a car, living in the suburbs can be impractical, especially if there is not reliable public transportation. Some people find living in the suburbs boring because you are more likely to be far away from the distinctive cultural amenities that only the city can offer.
