Tailgate Safety Tips
Tailgate season is upon us, and that means a lot of fun, food and football across America. However, tailgating can be dangerous if you are not careful. You are dealing with combustibles around people who might be a just a wee bit intoxicated, which makes it important that you follow some safety rules. Here are some tips to make sure your next tailgate event stays safe.
– Food poisoning can be a danger at tailgate. You can avoid this by making sure that you keep plenty of ice in your cooler to keep things perishables like meat, deviled eggs and mayonnaise at the proper temperature.
– Keep a fire extinguisher handy to quickly put out any fires that get out of control. Always check the extinguisher to make sure it is charged before you head out to a tailgate.
– Make sure that you properly cool off coals before you throw them away when the tailgating is over. You should thoroughly extinguish the coals with a healthy dose of water to make sure that they have no heat left before you throw them out.
– Check your auto insurance coverage to make sure you have comprehensive coverage. If you do not have comprehensive auto coverage, you may not be covered in the event of an accident while you are tailgating.
– Be responsible when you are consuming alcohol at a tailgate. If you are handling the grilling, it is best to wait to consume alcohol until after you have finished your chores on the grill. Try to make sure everyone around you drinks responsibly as well.
– Do not drive after drinking under any circumstances. Make sure that others don’t get behind the wheel after they have been drinking either.
– Be very careful when you are driving into a tailgate. It is even more important to be careful when you are driving away from a tailgate. You will need to keep an eye out for inebriated and distracted pedestrians. Drive slowly and always keep your head on as swivel to stay safe.
