Safe Holiday Traveling!
As the Thanksgiving, Hanukah, Christmas and New Year’s holidays descend, travel can become more perilous. Everyone is thinking about time with their families and the people important to them. Think ahead about holiday travel to enjoy a safe and fun holiday season.
Tips and Tricks for Safe Holiday Traveling:
Before you leave, don’t update Facebook to show that you’re going to be gone. Simply don’t say anything until you get back to keep you from becoming a target.
While packing, pack light and only bring the things you need. Don’t bring anything that will be difficult or expensive to replace, including jewelry or electronics. Put a luggage tag on every piece of baggage, no matter how vehemently your teen insists that it’s “not cool”. Don’t forget any medications you need and wear any medical alert bracelets. While an emergency can put a damper on a vacation, it doesn’t have to be devastating.
If you’re driving, refill fluids, change tires and pack the jumper cables and make sure that all valuables are in the trunk, where they can’t be seen. Leave at dawn or later at night if you can so there are fewer cars on the road. It might feel like you’re the only person not on the cell phone, but that makes it especially important that you put it aside. However, if you’re traveling with someone, have them check the app to track any weather changes. Also make sure that someone knows when you’re expected.
On arrival, become familiar with your surroundings and make sure to take lots of pictures. Have fun and create a holiday vacation experience that you’ll never ever forget.
