Home Relaxation Tips
Home is supposed to be a place where you can relax. Unfortunately, stress sometimes follows you home from work or school. Stress can be physically and emotionally harmful. It can lead to muscle pains, headaches and depression. You need to take steps to relax and relieve stress during the day. Several tips will make it easier to relax while at home.
- Schedule Relaxation Time Every Week: The first tip is to schedule relaxation time every week. You want to schedule at least an hour. Make sure everyone in the house knows this is your relaxation time and that you should not be disturbed. Spend the time alone in a room or a relaxing location outside the house. Mentally prepare yourself to relax. You should not think about anything unpleasant or stressful during this time.
- Keep All Electronics Off: Turn off all of your electronics during your relaxation times. This must include cell phones, televisions and computers. These items can all cause stress and can interrupt your relaxation attempts. You want to be unreachable. Additionally, avoid starting anything like cooking or laundry that might need your attention before you are done relaxing.
- Take a Moment to Breathe: Deep breathing actually has a positive effect on your body. It relieves tension and stress. You want to sit up straight in a comfortable location. Breathe in deeply through your nose. Hold the breath for a second and then release it slowly through your mouth. Do this several times in a row at a slow pace. This will relax you physically and mentally.
- Sleep and Eat Right Every Day: A bad diet and lack of sleep can cause stress. Eat right every day. Avoid processed foods, sugary foods and simple carbohydrates. Focus on eating healthy vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. You also want to get between seven and eight hours of good sleep every night for maximum relaxation.
