Outdoor Father’s Day Activities
You want Father’s Day to be special and memorable. Doing something outside of the home guarantees that you will not waste the gorgeous days of summer. Doing this can take a little extra planning and research. You should consider a few outdoor Father’s Day activities for the whole family.
- Take a bicycle tour: It can be fun to take a bicycle tour on Father’s Day. You can plan a route through your area, a nearby nature preserve, a waterfront or a park. The tour could last for several hours. You can end it with a picnic. Bicycling is fun because you can go at the pace you want. It is low-impact and does not put a large amount of stress on the body. Everyone will get to experience the great outdoors, see new things and spend time together.
- Tour dad’s childhood neighborhood: Something else that could be interesting is to spend the day touring the neighborhood where the father grew up. Doing this can involve just walking around the neighborhood, listening to stories from dad and checking out what is new. You might even be able to spend time in a park or playground depending on the type of area. This kind of activity is a sentimental outdoor activity many dads will enjoy.
- Do some boating: You could bring the whole family out onto the water to do some boating. You could rent a large boat and try fishing. You could rent kayaks or canoes so that everyone can enjoy a slow ride down a calm river or lake. Alternately, if the father is adventurous, then you could schedule a wild day of whitewater rafting. Boating will bring the family closer together in a unique way.
- Have a luau: A final outdoor activity is to have a luau. You can do this in the yard or a neighbor’s yard. A luau involves making a cooking pit, putting a pig or other meat inside and then waiting as it cooks slowly for hours. You can do fun things like dance, play games and listen to music outside while waiting for the meat to finish cooking. Luaus are a relaxing way for a dad to spend Father’s Day.
