How to Clean Out Your Closets for Fall
You do not want to go into fall with closets full of things that you will never need. You want to have clean and simple closets that are ready for daily use. This is possible with just a little work. You should understand how to clean out your closets for fall.
- Empty out Some Space: Start by emptying out some space in your closet. You need to take out everything and see what you definitely do not need in the closet to get through the fall. Find items you do not want and give or throw them away. Find space elsewhere for items you want but will not use this season. You could even rent a small storage locker for all the seasonal items in your closets. Empty out as much as possible before continuing.
- Divide Your Closet into Zones: You want to divide your closet into three different zones. These should be favorites, everyday and special occasions. You want the everyday section to be squarely in the center where everything is going to be easily accessible. Your favorites should be next. Special occasion items should go in places that are more difficult to reach since you will not be using them very often. This will help to keep your whole closet organized.
- Drawers and Racks: Do not rely on empty space and a bar for hangers to organize the closet. You want to fill the closet with drawers and racks. You need to increase the amount of surface area you have to store all your possessions. Small plastic cubes with a drawer on front can be stacked easily inside the closet providing you with many smaller compartments for storage. You could also put in rolling carts or long horizontal racks.
- Install Some Lights: A final step should be to install some lights. You can use small self-adhesive lights that run on battery power. Put two or three in the closet. Turn them on when you take stuff out or put things in. The lights will help you to see what is going on so that you stay organized.
