The Hidden Dangers of Drowsy Driving
Driving while being drowsy from a lack of sleep or from having an illness is almost as bad as driving while you are drinking. There are some signs and dangers that you might not be aware of that could save your life and the lives of others on the road. There are also a few tips on how to prevent driving while being drowsy:
Swerving
If you find yourself unable to maintain control of your lane while driving, then it’s time to pull over to a rest area to get some sleep. If you were to drift over too far out of your lane, then you could run off the road, hitting a tree, or you could hit another car as it’s coming in the other direction.
Falling Asleep
Some people can wake up after only a few moments of being asleep. If you notice that you have been driving and you don’t know how you got from one location to another, then it could be because you fell asleep for a short period of time. This is dangerous because you could end up in an accident and not know anything about what’s going on until it’s too late.
Take Breaks
One of the ways to help prevent driving while being drowsy is to take breaks, especially if you plan on driving for long distances at a time or at night. There are usually rest areas and gas stations along highways and roads where you can pull over for about 30 minutes to get a quick nap. This is also a good time for you to stretch the legs and arms so that you get blood circulated through the body. This can help you to stay awake as well. Another option is to drink coffee while driving or drive with the windows down.
