Nutritious Cookout Foods
Cookouts are the highlight of many people’s summers. Going to a cookout can be challenging if you are trying to eat healthy. Fortunately, there are many nutritious and delicious foods that you can eat at a cookout.
Corn on the Cob
Corn on the cob can be very healthy if you do not slather it with salt and butter. You can add flavor by squeezing lime or lemon juice on it. It is low in fat and high in potassium. It is also a great source of vitamin A and magnesium.
Steak
If you love steak, then you may want to try tuna steak or salmon steak. Tuna steaks and salmon steaks are delicious when they are cooked on the grill. You can brush them with olive oil and season them with limes and herbs. Both are filled with potassium, omega-3 and vitamin B.
Kale Chips
Potato chips are what many of us eat when we are craving something salty and crunchy. However, there are healthier options. You may want to consider making your own kale chips. Not only are they tasty, but they are relatively simple to make. All you have to do is season them, pour a little bit of olive oil on them and bake them in the oven. Vitamins A, C and K are some of the nutrients found in kale.
Coleslaw
Coleslaw can be a nutritious choice if you change the way that it is traditionally prepared. You can use non-fat Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise. You can also use apple cider vinegar to flavor it. Coleslaw is a great source of vitamin A and vitamin B.
Turkey Burgers
Burgers are one of the most popular cookout choices. You may want to choose turkey burgers over ground beef burgers, though. Turkey is relatively low in fat and calories. It is also a great source of protein. If you still want to have beef in your burgers, you can mix it with the ground turkey when you make the patties.
