Ensuring Your Pool Party Is Safe
The summer heat causes many people to retreat to pools, and may make you want to invite all your friends and families over for a party. When you do this, the risk increases exponentially, since a lot of people may not understand pool safety rules. When hosting a pool party it is important to remember and understand the best ways to stay safe.
Marking safety signs can be one way to promote safety. A sign stating “no diving,” “no running,” “no swimming alone,” and “stay away from drains” can help a lot. Talking to children about what not to do can ease the nerves of you and other adults there. Children should understand the potential dangers that can happen from running around the pool and roughhousing in the water.
Keeping your pool area clean is very important as well. The area surrounding the pool should be clear of any stray towels or toys. Adding in non-slip materials on the surface, diving board and ladders can help minimize the potential for falls. The pool water needs to be clean too. Regularly checking the chemical levels and various equipment can help you foresee any problems, fix anything ahead of time and maintain quality water.
Lastly, maintain constant supervision. Kids should always be watched when swimming and when around the pool. If small children or unexperienced swimmers are in the pool, an adult should be within arm’s reach of them. If possible, switch off supervising duties with other adults present. This can lead to better supervision, as one person doesn’t get tired from constantly watching the kids. Avoid alcohol when supervising, and especially when swimming. Staying sober can prevent you from getting easily distracted and losing focus.
